Dublin 2019 – Welcome to Dublin

Ink drawing with acrylic painting and digital colouring.

An illustration for Dublin 2019. I created the foreground and background separately: the foreground is line art with digital colouring, the background is (one of my earliest attempts at) acrylic painting. The ring circles the location of Dublin.

I modelled the likeness of the astronaut on Mae Jemison, the first woman of colour in space, who also had a cameo appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The ilustration was done very early in the bid; when Dublin 2019 was finally realised a different astronaut, Dr Jeanette Epps, was a special guest and panellist.
