Acrylic painting on 250 gsm art paper.
I created this artwork for Dublin 2019: An Irish Worldcon. The concept is Dublin’s Spire or Monument of Light (An Túr Solais) in O’Connell Street being used as a zeppelin tether. The skyline below features several iconic Dublin buildings.
I was inspired by art deco posters of the Empire State Building (particularly the spotlights) and similar posters of the Graf Zeppelin from the 1930s. I tried to come up with some interesting and fantastical variants on airship designs, as if people were congregating in Dublin from around the globe (and possibly beyond).
The artwork was used on Progress Report 4 for the convention.
