Glasgow in 2024 – SEC Armadillo and Hydro

Inks on 250gsm art paper.

This was produced for the Glasgow 2024 Worldcon bid, and was used as one of the pages in a 2020 colouring competition. It features the SEC Armadillo building on the banks of the River Clyde, and its companion building the Hydro or “flying saucer”, here taking its name literally.

The watery reflection is artistic licence as the Clyde is on the far side in reality; let’s just imagine it’s been raining. I chose a graphic, comic book style for this with some inspiration from the cosmic vistas of John Byrne for the sky. And I might have snuck in a Police Box…
