Dublin 2019 – Green Woman

Art for the Dublin 2019 Worldcon. This is a mixed-media work combining inked line art, pencil shading and digital colouring. The Green Man is an embodiment of nature, something Ireland has in abundance. It’s a motif strongly associated with the Celtic tradition, and leafy faces were included in the Book of Kells, thought to be written in Eighth Century Ireland. To make something a little bit different I created a female version.

The image was a prominent part of the Dublin 2019 launch event, the “Slices” promotional image that graced Dublin 2019 T-Shirts and progress reports, and was used as a bookmark. I also designed an advert by rearranging parts of the image.
